On the recommendation of my consultant Mr Ian Dunn, initial contact was made with Mr Aho’s secretary. I was impressed by the speedy response and the offer of a zoom call consultation directly with Mr Aho. Best options to remedy the problem of a particularly enlarged prostate were discussed and a plan put in place. Within three weeks I was in The Princess Grace Hospital in London to have a Holep operation performed by Tev and his team. From first enquiry through to the procedure itself and recovery thereafter, it has gone like clockwork. At no time did I ever experience pain or discomfort. Now normality is one toilet visit though the night compared to around four or five previously! Control and flow is back to what it was in my younger days. From the initial consultation through to the final post operation appointment, Tev has shown excellence in his field of healthcare. His calm manner and engaging personality portray great patience and understanding. To sum up: the care from Princess Grace Hospital staff was exemplary. Heartfelt thanks to the ‘A-Team’…. that’s Mr Aho and his theatre colleagues. From initial consultation through to the final post operation appointment Tev has shown absolute excellence in his field of healthcare. As an immensely relieved and satisfied patient, may I borrow a phrase from the ‘theatre’ of entertainment: “I love it when a plan comes together” JL Glasgow

Mr Tev Aho has given me (us) our life back: Brilliant! After going into Retention & being catheterised, Google led me to Tev: I had HoLEP & am totally fine. 24 hours later! A week on & im back to full fitness. I am a fit 62 year old with no other health issues. I am forever grateful for Tev’s brilliance, kindness, caring & genius. I hope anyone who suffers as I did gets the opportunity to have Mr Aho as their consultant surgeon. Thanks Mr Tev Aho!

This gentleman is absolutely amazing. From my first consultation I was totally at ease and totally confident that my Holep procedure would be successful. I had suffered with bph for some time and thought I had managed it, until I endured urine retention and was admitted to Coventry university hospital. They soon sorted me but left me catheterised My consultant there, Mr McDonald, a nice guy, told me that the NHS waiting time for possible surgery was six months After two months I decided to pursue the private treatment route. Best decision I have ever made. The results of various scans showed that my prostate was rather large, three times larger than normal. Unfortunately the procedure that Mr McDonald used would not cope with a prostate so big, but he referred me to Mr Ian Wharton, another great guy. He was just setting up his Holep department and could be some time in doing so. He suggested and eventually referred me to Mr Aho Within two weeks of my initial consultation I was walking into Princess Grace Hospital London and meeting this amazing person, Mr Tev Aho, a moment in my life I shall never forget and not realising that within two days I would be back to leading a greater quality of life. This hospital is also amazing. I was being treated with respect and as a fellow human being. Thank you. NHS had tried their best. To cut a long story short, I had returned to a normal life within two to three months of my Holep procedure Many thanks to everyone that I have had the pleasure in meeting during this unusual time in my life, not forgetting Eugene the concierge guy (he supports West Ham) !!! Bless him.

During the problems caused by covid lockdowns, Tev Aho went the extra mile for me, perhaps several extra miles, getting a slot for my operation at a very early moment. His reputation among his colleagues is very high; more than once I was told " You couldn't be in better hands" and so it proved. His skill set doesn't just reside in his technical expertise, but in his humanity and consideration for his patient as someone with fears and feelings, carefully explaining what is involved and encouraging about the possible outcomes. In fact, at the age of 88, with a heart condition and on anticoagulants, I seem to have recovered quickly and without post operative pain, something I must ascribe to his surgical expertise. I rarely recommend anybody, since I am aware that everyone's experience is different, but I would have no hesitation in doing so in Mr Aho's case.

Postscript after 3 months. BPH is insidious. It slowly destroys your quality of life without you realising it has happened. Then it gets so bad a catheter is fitted. I lived with BPH for more than 6 years. I couldn’t live with the catheter. After nearly 4 months, in desperation, I visited the Cambridge Urology Partnership and was extremely fortunate to get a consultation with Mr Tev Aho the next day. I was even more fortunate to have my HoLEP scheduled for just 9 days later. It transpired that mine was the last but one before the Covid lockdown. I could have suffered for at least another year. The procedure was painless and the catheter was removed the following morning at 06.15. I left Princess Grace Hospital late afternoon the same day. I had been dreading the 50 mile ride home but there was no discomfort at all. I didn’t even need to rush to the toilet as soon as I got home. The only after effect from the op was 2 weeks of mild stinging / burning. I was walking and back on my allotment within those two weeks. A week later I was gently back in my gym on the rowing machine. A week after that back on my mountain bike after a break of two years. I’ve just had my 3 month review with Tev. My IPSS score has dropped from 27 to 1 ! Quality of life is now back to how it was10 years ago. I’m fit, windsurfing, kayaking and biking again. Perhaps more importantly, the lethargy which plagued me, has gone. I can smile again. Last week I was back volunteering in a local park. The fact that the toilets are still closed no longer worries me. Words cannot express my gratitude to Tev and his Team. He exudes confidence, compassion and empathy. The email support was like a comfort blanket. I wish I had had this done years ago ! If any man has doubts about undergoing a HoLEP or choosing Tev Aho for the procedure please feel free to contact me. Best wishes to Tev in his mission to rid all men of catheters.
